Tis the season to go picking: A Strawberry Jam Recipe

Yesterday I went strawberry picking. I picked about 26lbs of strawberries and paid .70 cents per pound. Not a bad deal, but when I got home I realized, uh-oh I don’t have enough room in the freezer to store these. That is when my mother in law Eleonora came to the rescue and suggested that I make some strawberry jam. She even gave me her favorite recipe. Here is mama Eleonora’s strawberry jam recipe.

Ingredients:

3kg strawberries

1/2 lemon

1 orange

2kg sugar

1.  Peel and romove the seeds from 1/2 of a lemon. Slice the orange into thin slices and also remove the seeds (do not peel).

2.  Add the strawberries, lemon, orange and sugar to a deep pot. Bring to boil and boil for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, remove from heat and allow to sit for four hours.

3. After four hours, bring to boil and boil for 5 minutes. Allow to completely cool. Repeat the same process for a totale of 3 times.

4. On the fourth time, allow it to come to simmering point,  remove from heat and pour the jam in a jar.

Suggestions: Add a teaspoon of this jam to your cup of tea, or spread on bread and eat with your tea.

    • Thank you! and you are welcome! Yes you should totally try to put it in tea, our family does it all the time, especially with home-made jam :)
